Model a scope, not an outcome

Ask the attorney which tasks are billed by the hour, who performs them and whether different staff have different rates. Enter the hours and lower and upper rates from that conversation. The scenario menu contains invented arithmetic inputs only. It is not a survey, a quote or evidence of a typical immigration lawyer price. A fixed-fee engagement should be compared through its written scope instead of being converted into speculative hours.

The lower total is hours × lower rate + fixed costs. The upper total is hours × upper rate + fixed costs. For the illustrative starting values, 5 × $150 + $100 = $850 and 5 × $250 + $100 = $1,350. These are planning bounds for the inputs you chose, not a cap on an invoice. An evidence request, interview or appeal can create additional work if outside the agreement. Ask for a budget update and written approval process before that work starts. Government fees are excluded unless you deliberately include them in fixed costs; label your notes to prevent double counting.
